TNT Newsletter
The New Team on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay
August 2006
WELCOME
Welcome to all new and returning TNT swimmers and families. We begin our third year of operation with approximately sixty five swimmers, three times the number that we began with during our inaugural season of 2004.
COMMUNICATION
The primary source of communication for families of TNT is through email. Please make sure that we have your correct email address and that you check your email regularly for team updates, highlights, meet information, and schedules.
The most readily available and up to date source of information about TNT is the team website, located at www.swimtnt.com. Parents and swimmers are encouraged to check it daily.
Family file folders can usually be located on the black bench on the pool deck and should be checked either before or after every practice. Family account statements, meet notices, competition reviews, and meet awards can be found there. Hard copies of newsletters and important updates are also placed there to supplement the web site.
The Parent Handbook is an essential tool for parents to stay abreast of pertinent information regarding our program philosophy, objectives, goals, as well as team policies, and procedures. Answers to most questions about our program can be found there. The handbook is located in the Parent Perspective section of the team web site and hard copy will be available for distribution soon.
Finally, the monthly team newsletter is emailed to team families, and hard copies are also distributed to family file folders. The newsletter serves as a source of team highlights and updates. Please direct any questions, comments, or suggestions regarding the newsletter content to Coach Jan.

DON’T MISS THIS
TNT is the host club for the 2006 Southeastern Fall Meeting and Hall of Fame weekend to be held October 7 & 8 at the Perdido Beach Resort, in Orange Beach. Among the events scheduled will be seminars by nationally recognized sports psychologist, Dr. Alan Goldberg, and Olympic gold medal winner, Mark Gangloff. TNT swimmers of all ages, as well as parents are encouraged to attend these seminars. Following the seminars, there will also be a banquet and dance. For more information about this unique and fun experience, visit http://www.swimtnt.com/SES_Hall_of_Fame_06.html
SWIM STUFF
TNT’s apparel provider, Swim Stuff will be visiting the YMCA on Saturday, September 9th from 9:30 – 11:30 AM. Team swim suits will be available for sizing, as well as parkas, bags, etc. Parents are encouraged to take advantage of this one stop shopping without having to travel.
FUNDRAISING
TNT offers several options for families to meet fundraising requirements, and applies fifty percent over that amount as a credit to family accounts. Last year’s successful Christmas wreath and online magazine subscription fundraisers are scheduled to begin again in September. Please contact Debbie Anderson for answers to fundraising questions by phone, 990-2640, or email at wande1964@aol.com
COOL TEAM T’S
You might have seen the awesome black and red, “Life is Dynamite” tie dye T - shirts being sported around the pool by TNT swimmers, coaches, and parents lately. These shirts are for sale at cost, and since you undoubtedly would like to look sporty yourself, you should contact Debbie Anderson by email wande1964@aol.com in order to obtain one or more.
SMILE AND SAY TNT
The 2006 – 2007 team photo is tentatively scheduled to be taken at the Bounds Family YMCA on Saturday, October 14th at 10:00 AM. Boys should wear their team swim suit and gray team T – shirt. Girls should wear only their team swim suit. Last year’s photo included all but two team members, and we would like to have another great turn out this year. Please contact Debbie Anderson with questions or scheduling conflicts.
LOCKER ROOM ETIQUETTE
People who swim, play basketball, lift weights, take aerobics, etc., all end up in the locker rooms at some point during their visit to the Y. For this reason it is very important that all of our swimmers treat the locker room and those who patronize it with respect. Swimmers are asked to please not leave towels on the floor, loiter, play, or socialize there. Also, the YMCA has requested that swim bags not be stored in the locker rooms, but instead be taken out to the pool deck while swimmers are practicing. We receive very few locker complaints from the Y and want to keep it that way, therefore parents are asked to please talk to their swimmers about the abovementioned policies.
POOLSIDE POPULATIONS
The pool deck is a place where people tend to gather when arriving to deposit or pick up swimmers for practices at the YMCA. It is always good to see our families and we are happy to have moms, dads, uncles, aunts, grandparents, etc. visit to watch the swimmers perform. However, please be aware that the pool deck can become a crowded and noisy place, especially during the transition from one practice group to another. Spectators are asked to please help alleviate congestion and noise by congregating in the breezeway between the locker room and pool deck, or if you find it necessary to be on the deck, along the length of the pool and not directly behind the lanes where most of the instruction is occurring.
