NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCKS

A warm welcome to new teammates Emily and Ginny Sharrod.  Both girls practice with level 4 C.  Congratulations!  You  are going to have a lot of fun and learn to swim really, really fast.

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS

Congratulations to TNT swimmers who celebrate birthdays during the month of November:  Chantz Stevens, 9 on 11/6; Haley Heebe, 13 on 11/7; Alexander Daly, 8 on 11/23; Reagan Holifield, 11 on 11/29.  Another year older and another year faster!

NUMERO UNO

Congratulations to TNT’s Kyle Simpson, whose time in the 11 – 12 boys 100 meter butterfly finished 1st place in the nation in USA Swimming’s National Age Group Top 16 Times listing. His time is also among the top 20 times ever recorded by USA Swimming for his age group in that event.

Kyle also made the elite NAG Top 16 in five other events including the 200 back 10th, 50 fly 11th, 100 back 12th, and 50 back 14th. His time in the 100 yard backstroke was 13th in the 2007 Short Course rankings.

Kyle will receive a certificate from USA Swimming for each of his NAG rankings and also a pin designating his first place time in the 100 butterfly.

You can view the 2007 National Age Group Top 16 rankings HERE.

NATIONWIDE

TNT’s 2007 Southeastern Long Course Championship squad was featured in the November issue of Swimming World Magazine; the world’s leading independent resource for swimming.  The photo and caption were included in the American Relay section on page 48 of the monthly publication.

The photo included swimmers posing with TNT’s second consecutive 1st place trophy in the small team division, which the team won at the 2007 Southeastern Long Course Championship meet in July.  Swimmers pictured in the magazine include:  Will Anderson, Simon Boles, Griffin Fisk, Gracey Kahn, Lauren Kinsey, Haley Miller, Adele Mantiply, J.D. Powell, Tyler Powell, Anna Ramsey, Kyle Simpson, Ryan Simpson, Andrew Szydel, Ashley Szydel, Ben Turnipseed and Boyd Turnipseed.

Swimming World Magazine covers swimming for enthusiasts, amateurs, and professionals in the sport, and includes news, swim meet results, workout advice and technique tips.  Subscribe online at: http://www.swimmingworldmagazine.com/default.asp

FEEL THE POWER

The Power Point system assigns a point value to each swim for each age level. This point system allows for comparison of the quality of performances across strokes, distances and events, as well as between age groups.  Listed below is TNT's current power point Top 10 for
TNT swimmers ages 9 & older, as well as a separate listing for 8 & unders. You can view the entire current short course TNT Power Point totals at: http://www.swimtnt.com/Power_Points.html

EXTRA SPECIAL

Thank you to TNT parents who provided extra curricular highlights for inclusion in this month’s newsletter.

Anna Ramsey has been named to the Baldwin County Honors Band and won first place in the 7th grade girl’s basketball shoot-a-thon at Daphne Middle School, where she made 63 out of 100 shots.

Ashley Kinsey is on the Christ the King Scholars Bowl “A” Team.  They won their first competition against Fairhope Middle School and Bayside Academy.

Thomas Kinsey finished 3rd overall in the Baldwin County Sectional Cross Country Meet for Fairhope High School.  He completed the State Cross Country Meet for FHS with a personal best time of 18:48.

Adele Mantiply’s yearbook cover design was chosen for the Top 5 at CKCS.  Adele will be escorted by Will Anderson and presented on the field at halftime as a member of the Toy Bowl Court on Dec. 1, 2007.

As the citizenship club representative for her 2nd grade class, Jordan Dyess helped to collect and distribute food to families for Thanksgiving.  Jordan will also be in the Daphne Christmas Parade- on the Daphne East Elementary School Citizenship Club float.

Lauren Kinsey is participating in the Toy Bowl court for Christ The King and also in the spelling Bee for CKCS.

Gabrielle Horst and Kaitlyn Simison’s soccer team, The Blasts, won Daphne’s League and Fairhope’s League.  They also had an undefeated season and won the playoffs.

Ashley Szydel, Ashley Kinsey, Will Anderson and Coach Teri Kinsey completed a fun and exciting soccer season on the Christ the King senior team.

Kyle and Ryan Simpson are getting settled into the new ‘hood, as the packing and hauling activity begins to taper off.  Both have begun to make new friends. They were particularly excited to find the house on Halloween that was dispensing FULL SIZED Snicker Bars. Of course, Dad had to confiscate those for safety reasons. They are also both delivering impressive Guitar Hero III sessions between their practices and studies. Kyle got a haircut AND foiled a burglary at the same time. Ryan has vowed NEVER to get a haircut again.

Hannah Denham placed 13th (out of 40 participants) in the Spanish Fort Elementary School-wide spelling bee on Thursday, November 15th. Hannah was also selected for a speaking role in the Bay Community Church Christmas Program to be held at the Daphne Civic Center on Friday, Dec. 14th.

Madeline Ellison was a top reader for her 3rd grade class at Fairhope Elementary School.

LOOKING GOOD

Sixty five TNT swimmers turned out for the 2007 team picture taken November 15 at the YMCA by PIP Photography.  Special thanks to Debbie Anderson for again organizing the event and to parents and coaches who helped bring off this years team photo.  You can view all the good looking TNT swimmers and their smiling faces by clicking HERE.

GREEN IS ALSO A TEAM COLOR

The deadline for the first half of TNT’s fundraising requirement is Saturday, December 1, 2007.  If you have not already met your required fundraising amount, the amount due will be reflected on your December account statement.

Please remember that fundraising is a normal function at most privately funded organizations and supplements TNT’s comparatively low training fee structure. TNT offers year round, as well as seasonal opportunities for families to meet their fundraising requirements, and applies fifty percent over that amount as a credit to family accounts.

TIS’ THE SEASON

TNT’s 4th Annual Christmas Party is scheduled to be held on Sunday, December 9, at the Christ the King Catholic School Gymnasium from 5:00 – 8:00 PM.  The menu will again feature barbecue and like last year, we will hire a DJ and will also provide holiday arts and crafts activities. Swimmers will also receive a coach’s holiday gift. Cost is only $2.00 per person so please set this evening aside to join in for a fun holiday get together with TNT.

HOLIDAY PROJECT

TNT would like to continue our annual holiday project by giving a special Christmas to needy children in Baldwin County. To simplify this process, we are asking families to make a monetary cash donation and we will shop for the children.  There is a 6 X 9 envelope in the A & T KINSEY folder for your contribution.   More details will follow.

TENTATIVE HOLIDAY PRACTICE SCHEDULE

Listed below are tentative changes to TNT’s practice schedule during the Christmas holidays.  Make up practices have been listed in addition to the normal Wednesday practice schedule.

USA SWIMMING’S PARENT TIP OF THE MONTH

Each month USA Swimming posts an advice column on its Web site intended to help parents contribute to their children’s success in the sport of swimming. This month’s tip reads as follows:

‘When parents take on the roles and responsibility of the coach, it takes away from the fun in swimming. Critiquing races, offering suggestions on what went wrong or how to improve, and placing expectations on performance are examples of things parents do that tend to decrease the kids’ enjoyment. You must trust the coach to guide your child’s sports experience and you must be able to accept the coach’s authority.’
