As a first place winner, Savannah received both a trophy and a cash prize, repeating her success last year as a 7th grader, the entry level for this annual event.  In early December, Savannah was also selected as an eight grade student of the month by the Baldwin County Music Teachers Association for the month of November

NATIONAL AGE GROUP TOP 16 TIMES

Have you ever heard of a swimmer being “nationally ranked”?  This is what it means.

The Top 16 program is an awards program for the top level of age group swimmers. In order to qualify, swimmers must first achieve an NRT (National Reportable Time), or consideration time, which is submitted to USA Swimming’s National Tabulator. Consideration times are approximately the 25th place time from the previous year.

The age groups used for ranking individual events are 10 & under, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, and 17-18.  The age groups for relay events are 10-U, 11-12, 13-14, and 15-18. The time period for each year’s awards is from September 1st of each year, through August 31st of the following. Lists are compiled and checked in the fall and the final list prepared and announced prior to the end of the year.

The program awards consist of certificates which are awarded to the fastest 16 swimmers of each sex in each recognized event in each age group. The awards are made for both short course yard and long course meter events. In addition the fastest swimmer in each event receives a pin. Awards are also made to relay teams in the same way.

SOUTHEASTERN TOP 10

After the National Age Group Top16 is finalized, Southeastern Swimming publishes its Top 10 Times listing for short course and long course.  This listing can be found on the Southeastern Swimming web site at:  http://www.seswim.org/meets/top5.htm

Congratulations to those TNT swimmers who were listed for the 2005 – 2006 Short Course and 2006 Long Course seasons.  Short Course:  Will Anderson, 10 & under boys 100 back 1st, 100 free 1st, 50 back 2nd, 200 IM 2nd, 100 IM 3rd, 500 free 6th.   Long Course:  Will Anderson, 11 – 12 boys 100 back 7th, 800 free 8th, 50 back 10th.  Savannah Ekelund, 11 – 12 girls 50 back 10th.  J.D. Powell, 11 – 12 boys 800 free 10th.  Kyle Simpson, 11 – 12 boys 100 back 5th, 50 fly 10th.

AGE GROUP TIME STANDARDS

Motivational time standards are established by USA Swimming in order to measure age group swimming performance on a national scale.  This scale is based on the 10th place time in the nation for each event in the following age groups:  10 & under, 11 – 12, 13 - 14, 15 – 16, 17 - 18. Times that are within 5% of 10th place are AAAA times. Times within 10% are AAA, 15% AA, 20% A, 25% BB, and 30% B.

Time standards are utilized by host teams to limit the size of certain meets.  For example, because our LSC (Local Swimming Committee) encompasses such a vast geographical area (Alabama, Tennessee, and the Florida Panhandle), the annual Southeastern Championships are generally restricted to A – AA times as qualifying standards in order to regulate the length of meet sessions. Conversely, time standards are also employed at other meets like the South District meet, in order to limit entries exclusively to non – Southeastern qualifiers.

TNT recognizes the improved time standards of our swimmers by listing them in all post meet competition reviews and by awarding specialty, black and gold “Improved Time Standard” ribbons.  TNT swimmer time standards can be viewed on the Best Times page located on TNT’s web site at:  http://www.swimtnt.com/BEST_TIMES_MAIN.html

TNT Swimmers have accounted for ninety four improved motivational time standards since our first meet at the end of September.  Keep up the good work!
