A VERY SPECIAL RELAY
The TNT Swim Team's Relay for Life team is ready to participate in The Relay for Life Event. This fun event promotes cancer awareness throughout the community. The Eastern Shore Relay for Life will be at the Daphne Middle School on Friday, May 2 from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. All of the teams will set up tents that display their themes, and they will have at least one person from their team walking on the track during the entire event. TNT Swim Team’s theme is Blow Up Cancer. It will be a fun-filled night with several optional, organized competitions between teams, including: 7:30 PM, Three - Legged Race; 9:30 PM, Mummy Wrap; 11:15 PM, Doughnuts - On - A - Line Contest; 12:15 AM, Champions Challenge (winners of the previous races).
To keep the spirit going, there will be special themed laps, where the participants will wear the appropriate clothing or items before walking the lap. For example, Auburn vs. Alabama, Crazy Pajama Lap, Victory Hat Lap (new hats to donate to American Cancer Society Loan Closet), Road to Recovery Parade (teams provide decorated boxes), Quitter’s Lap (those who stopped & wish to stop smoking). Other competitions include Team Karaoke, Scavenger Hunt, and Deal or No Deal Contest.
One of the most touching activity of the night is the Opening Ceremony where cancer survivors join together to walk the first “Victory Lap”. Another event is the Luminaria Ceremony when luminaries are lit around the track to remember and honor cancer victims and survivors.
Since this is our first year, we would like TNT families to come out and support our team. We have made over $1000 for the American Cancer Society by bagging groceries, and now is the time to have fun.
Please let Terri Kinsey know if your family would like to participate and enjoy in the excitement. Also, what hours can you be there? Look in your family file folder for more information about the Relay for Life Event.
MYTHICAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Southeastern Swimming has published a mythical 8 & Under SES Championship by combining and scoring the results from each of the LSC's four District Championship Meets, held last February. OLYMPIC PREVIEW
Because swimmers generally win between 25 - 35% of the USA's Olympic medals, the sport of swimming usually finds itself in the national spotlight every four years. That will be the case again at this years 2008 Summer Olympic Games, August 8 - 24 in Beijing, China. NBC is highlighting competitive swimming as its featured sport as the world follows Micheal Phelp's quest for 8 gold medals. Phelps, who won 6 gold medals at the 2004 games in Athens, is challenging swimmer Mark Spitz's record of 7 in a single Olympic games. Read more about his quest for gold here. You can log onto the official Olympic Web site at http://en.beijing2008.cn/
