VIRTUAL CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

As of December 28, TNT ranks 26th out of 62 teams from Southeastern Swimming in USA Swimming’s Toyota Virtual Club Championships for the 2006 – 2007 Short Course Season.

The Virtual Club Championships are tabulated annually for both the short course and long course seasons. All registered USA Swimming clubs are scored automatically using the USA Swimming Star Times Data Base combined with the Hy-Tek Single-Year Age Group Power Point system. The program scores single age groups from 11-18 years old. After all eligible swims have been scored using the power point system; a team score for each registered USA Swimming club is then calculated.  You can read about and learn more about Virtual Club Championships at the USA Swimming web site..

A BIG THANK YOU

Coach Jan extends his sincere thanks to everyone who contributed towards the purchase of his Christmas gift. The gift certificate to Ruth’s Chris Steak House is very much appreciated and will be put to good use.

BEADS AND MORE BEADS

TNT's 3rd Annual Mardi Gras Practice is scheduled for Saturday, February 10th.  This special event  features beads, moon pies, and king cake for all practice groups.  You can view last year’s Mardi Gras practice at

IT’S OFFICIAL

Dave Smith from Southeastern Swimming will be visiting TNT to give clinics for Stroke and Turn Judges and Starters. The clinic is scheduled to be held at the Bounds Family YMCA on Saturday, February 24.  The Stroke and Turn clinic will begin at 9:00 AM and the Starters Clinic at 11:00 AM.  This is an excellent and convenient opportunity for parents to begin the three step process toward becoming a certified USA Swimming official.

TNT will cover the cost of any parent who becomes a certified USA Swimming official, as well as the cost of the annual USA Swimming membership renewal for those who work the minimum number of 6 volunteer sessions per year.  Stroke and turn judging is easy to learn and will get you out of the spectator section and onto the deck where you will be a valuable contributor.  All families who are not yet volunteering as meet officials are encouraged to have at least one parent in attendance.

FASCINATING FOOD FACTS

Mr. Ken Haney of Thomas Wellness Center will be hosting TNT’s 3rd Annual Interactive Nutrition Seminar, Saturday, February 24th from 12:30 – 2:00 PM, location TBA.  The seminar will include an appetizer, main course, and dessert for all in attendance.

During the meal, Mr. Haney will identify the main food groups and essential nutritional elements and will explain how they contribute to positive growth developmentally, as well as athletically.  Finally, Mr. Haney will answer questions that parents and swimmers have about what, when, and how to eat.

Last year’s program was fun and delicious so please don’t miss it.  To view photos from last years program log on to http://www.swimtnt.com/Nutrition_Seminar_06.html

PLAN ON IT

The date for TNT’s 3rd Annual Short Course Awards Banquet will be Tuesday, March 13, 2007, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Christ the King School gymnasium. The banquet will include dinner and award presentations for all swimmers of TNT.  Please mark this date on your calendar and plan to attend.   You can view photos of last years baquet at http://www.swimtnt.com/Pics_SC_Awards_Dinner_06.html

RELAY FOR LIFE

The TNT swim team will be sponsoring a Relay for Life team to benefit the American Cancer Society.  Many people are affected by cancer either through family members or friends.  Relay for Life is a nationwide event that lasts 12 to 24 hours and sometimes goes overnight.  It recognizes cancer survivors and has a luminary ceremony honoring those who lost their battle with cancer.  Each team decorates a tent area and participates by having at least one member walk on the track during the entire event.   Our local event will be on Friday, May 4 and is held at Daphne High School.  It starts about 5:30p.m.and lasts until 12:00 or 1:00a.m. Information about the event will be distributed via family file folders.
