2018 Southern Zone Age Group Championships

Three TNT swimmers competed as members of the Southeastern Zone All Star Team at the 2018 Southern Zone Age Groups Championships, August 1 - 4, in Midland, Texas. TNT swimmers had a great meet, accounting for 1 Age Group High Point Award, 2 New Winter Junior National Cuts, 3 New Improved Time Standards, 8 New Team Records and 8 Improved Times.
The three TNT swimmers, including Elizabeth Chen, Letitia
Sim and Levenia Sim, were selected for the elite age group
combined with 47 Southeastern swimmers from Alabama,
Tennessee and the Florida Panhandle, to help the
Southeastern team finish 3rd place in team scoring among
The Southeastern Zone Team was lead by the efforts of
Award, scoring top 3 in all of her individual events, including
first place finishes in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes, and the
200 Individual Medley. Letitia's times in those events were
new meet records and her times in the 50 free (relay lead off)
Letitia scored 58 points in her individual events, winning the 15 - 18 girls
high point award. Letitia earned 11 medals (5 gold, 1 silver and 5 bronze,
including the 100 breast - 1st place, 200 breaststroke - 1st place, 200
Individual Medley - 1st place, 400 IM - 2nd place, 100 backstroke - 3rd
place, 100 butterfly - 3rd place. She also was a member of 5 relay teams,
including the 400 medley relay - 1st place, 200 medley relay - 1st place,
200 freestyle relay - 2nd place, 200 mixed freestyle relay - 3rd place,
400 freestyle relay - 3rd place.
50 freestyle 26.92, 200 breaststroke 2:38.45, 400 IM 5:08.53, 100 back
1:05.70, and 100 breast 1:11.99. She also had 5 lifetime best times in
the 50 free, 100 back, 200 breast, 100 breast and 400 IM, and had
Improved Age Group Time Standards in the 50 free AAAA and 100
back AAAA
Elizabeth Chen and Levenia Sim, competed in the 11 - 12 girls age group.
The girls competed in 6 individual events each and competed well at their
first national travel meet.
Levenia Sim, age 12, scored 26.5 points in individual events, including the 50 back - 2nd place, 50 fly 4th place, 100 fly - 5th place, 100 back - 6th place. She also competed on 5 SES relay teams. Levenia's times in the 50 back 31.43, 50 fly 29.77 and 50 free 29.33, were personal best times and also new TNT Team Records.
Elizabeth Chen, age 12, competed in 6 individual events at her first national travel meet. Elizabeth's 100 and 50 freestyles were both Personal Best Times and her time in the 100 freestyle was a new AAA Time Standard.
Elizabeth, Letitia and Levenia, represent the highest number of TNT swimmers to qualify for the Southeastern Zone Team in a single year. Previous TNT swimmers to qualify for this meet include, Will Anderson (2011), Alyssa Dennis (2016). Trey Sheils (2017), Letitia Sim (2017), Kyle Simpson (2007, 2009, 2010, 2011), Ashley Szydel (2008), and Andrew Szydel (2010).
Letitia Sim joins two other TNT swimmers, who have won individual events at the Southern Zone Age Group Championship Meet, including Kyle Simpson - 1st place 11 - 12 boys 100 butterfly (2007), and Trey Sheils - 1st place 15 - 16 boys 100 breaststroke (2017).
