TNT SWIMMING
2012 YEAR IN REVIEW
2012 marked TNT Swimming's ninth consecutive year of providing South Alabama communities with a choice in professionally administered, year round competitive swimming programs. The year was highlighted by new levels of swimming success and continued traditions that make TNT Swimming a special experience for area swimmers and families.
TNT swimmers competed in a total of 21 USA Swimming meets during the 2012 short course and long course seasons, including local, regional and national level competitions. TNT swimmers accounted for 4 USA Junior National Qualifying Times, 8 NCSA Junior National Qualifying Times, 67 New Southeastern Championship Qualifying Times, 91 New Team Records, 382 Improved Age Group Time Standards and 1,122 Improved Times.
TNT Age Group swimming continued to excel, as fourteen swimmers achieved 2012 Southeastern qualifying times. These swimmers competed with the fastest age group swimmers throughout the states of Alabama, Tennessee and Florida at both Short Course and Long Course Southeastern Championships in Knoxville, TN.
On a national scale, 40 TNT age group swimmers (10 & under, 11 - 12, 13 -14, 15 - 16 - 17 - 18) achieved a total of 295 USA Swimming Motivational Time Standards, including 8 AAAA times, 16 AAA times, 22 AA times, 30 A times, 85 BB times and 114 B times.
At TNT's Senior Group level (open age), Will Anderson and Kyle Simpson competed at both the 2012 NSCA Junior National Championships in Orlando, FL, and USA Speedo Junior National Championships in Knoxville, TN. The boys also competed at the American Long Course Championships in Austin, TX, where they were joined by teammate, Adele Mantiply.
Finally, both Kyle and Will were named to the 2011 - 2012 USA Swimming Scholastic All American Team, highlighting their academic and competitive swimming success. 2012 marked the second consecutive year that Kyle was named to the elite USA National Swimming squad.
TNT Senior swimmers also lead their high school teams at the 2012 Alabama State High School Championships in Auburn. Five TNT Senior Group swimmers qualified for finals and scoring points in individual events for their high schools, including Will Anderson (McGill Toolen), 100 fly 3rd, 100 back 2nd; Simon Boles (Fairhope), 100 back 9th, 200 IM 12th; Sahra El - Hamaki (McGill Toolen),100 breast 5th; Kyle Simpson (Spanish Fort), 100 fly 2nd,100 back 3rd; and Ryan Simpson (Spanish Fort), 100 back 11th.
One of the hallmarks of TNT swimming continues to be hosting fun and innovative "in house" specialty practice sessions and family oriented events.
TNT's tradition of contributing to LSC, State and Area administration also continued, by successfully hosting the Southeastern Swimming's 2012 Hall of Fame & Swimposium Weekend in Gulf Shores. The event featured Olympian and World Record holder, Aaron Peirsol, who conducted a 4 hour swim clinic for swimmers from throughout the Southeastern United States. Strength training and nutritional seminars were also conducted by PK and Carrie Karkoska, athletic trainers from Auburn University.
Finally, TNT parents continued to play a significant role as volunteers in our sport, regularly working at various levels as deck officials at USA Swimming, Summer League and High School meet venues.
